What a Butterfly Pad is
Each pad is a hydrogel-coated flexible electrode shaped like a pair of wings, sized to cover the lower abdomen or lower back in one piece — the brand’s point is that the wide shape spreads the stimulation over a bigger area than the small square pads on pharmacy TENS units. The device clips to the pad; the pad sticks to the skin. Because the gel is what both adheres and conducts, the pad is spent when it stops sticking cleanly or the sensation becomes patchy, not when it looks worn.
On the 2.0 the pad also contains the heating elements, which is why it needs a new connection system and why the brand’s FAQ states flatly that the new pads are not compatible with the original model. The reverse is also true: V1 pads do not carry heat and do not fit the 2.0 connector.

The brand says the pads “usually last anywhere between 20–30 uses”. A set contains two pads, so one £15 purchase is 40–60 uses. From there the arithmetic depends only on how often you wear the device:

Per use, a pad costs £0.25–0.38 regardless of pattern; the annual total simply scales with how many days you reach for it. Making pads last to the top of the range
- Apply to clean, dry, lotion-free skin; oils are what kill the adhesive fastest.
- Peel from the skin slowly and put the pad straight back on its plastic liner — never fold it gel-to-gel.
- Store in the pouch that comes with the device, away from heat.
- A few drops of water rubbed into a tacky pad restores adhesion once or twice; it does not fix a pad that has stopped conducting evenly.
- Alternate the two pads in the set rather than wearing one out first; the second stays fresh in its packet.
